Clyde Oliver Johnson
Age 77, Topeka, passed away April 6, 2003 at a Topeka hospital. He was born August 31, 1925 in Joplin, MO the son of Clarence and Nellie Elliott Johnson. He served in the US Marine Corps during World War II and Korea from 1943 to 1952. After leaving the military he worked in the auto parts business in Great Bend and Ottawa. Joined Ottawa Police Department in 1955 as a patrolman and worked his way through the ranks to become Chief Of Police leaving in 1974. Came to Topeka working for the Kansas Highway Patrol, Security Division, retiring in 1991. After retirement he worked for Laidlaw Bus Services and Walmart. He was a member of Ottawa Masonic Lodge # 18 of Ottawa, Life member and Past Commander of the VFW, Arab Shrine of Topeka. He spent many years working with the Boy Scouts of America.
He was married to Geraldine Warner in 1948, Ottawa, KS. Of this marriage three Daughters were born, Sharon Shackelford, Farmersville, CA, Karen E. Dryden, Ottawa, KS, Connie Billbe, Buchanan, TN.
He was married to Judy Gunckle in March of 1998 in Burlington, KS. She survives at the home.
Other survivors include:One Brother David Johnson, Topeka, 5 Stepchildren, 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 3 nieces.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 10, 2003 at 11:00AM at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Masonic graveside services will be held at Westlawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Johnson will lie in state at Penwell Gabel Mid-Town Chapel Wednesday April, 9, 2003 from 1:00PM to 9:00PM. A family visitation will be held that evening from 7:00PM to 8:00PM.
