Clotilda "Tillie" M. Lawter, 91, of Topeka, passed away Friday, September 7, 2012.
Tillie was born January 27, 1921, in Arma, KS, daughter of Clifford A. and Mary C. (Betase) Bezingue. She graduated from Topeka High School. Tillie worked for Santa Fe Railroad Company, Bob Owen & Co., Overland Park, Overland Park Credit Union, and retired as manager at Kansas Employment Security Employees Credit Union. After her retirement, Tillie worked for Century 21, Topeka.
She was united in marriage to William C. Lawter on August 28, 1943, in Kansas City, MO. Tillie was an honorary lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star, Beulah Chapter #34, IAPES, and Santa Fe Oldtimers. She belonged to United Methodist Church of Overland Park and First Congregational Church, Topeka. Tillie was active in USO during WWII. She was a past treasurer at Seabrook United Church of Christ, and volunteered at the VA Hospital.
Tillie is survived by her three children, Bill Lawter, Jr. and his wife Susan, Ponca City, OK, Mary Lou McKee, Independence, MO, and James Lawter, Topeka, grandchildren, Shannon Morse, Allison Lawter, and Scott McKee, great-grandchildren, Grant Morse, Anna McKee, Olivia McKee, and Jensen McKee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Clifford Bezingue and his wife Mary, and sister Angel Blaine and her husband Virgil.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at First Congregational Church, 1701 SW Collins, Topeka. Private inurnment will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka, is assisting the family with arrangements.
