Cletus Melvin Skinner passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Midland Care Hospice House in Topeka, KS.
He was born at home in Neosho Falls, Kansas to Leo L. and Myrtle A. (Huffman) Skinner on March 17, 1929. He moved to Topeka in 1944.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948 and two tours in the Naval Reserve. He served on the USS Springfield in the Pacific area. He worked as a Carman for the AT & SF Railway Co. in Topeka for 43 years, retiring in 1989. During his tenure at AT & SF, he also served on their company Fire Department. He was a life member of the American Legion, Good Sam Camping Clubs of America and a member of the Restless Wheels Camping Club.
Clete married Emma Lou Skinner on June 29, 1951. She survives. Other survivors include, three sons, Stephen and wife, LeeAnne, Topeka; Richard and wife, Vikki, Woodland Park, CO and Ronald and wife, Melody, Lawrence and one daughter, Patricia and husband, Ronald Bone, Carbondale; 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren; three sisters, Rowena Turner, Garden City; Jean Davis, Lawrence and Carol Manion and husband, Bill, Topeka and one brother, Jim and wife, Carole, Colorado Spring, CO.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and brother, Gary.
At his request he was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Private inurnment will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery.
