Cleo B. Steanson, 82, Topeka, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010 at Midland Hospice House.
Cleo was born July 10, 1927 in Linn County on a farm near Trading Post, Kansas, the daughter of James Lee and Pansy (Hightower) Smith. She graduated from Pleasanton High School.
She was employed by the Topeka Public Schools, serving as the school secretary at Linn Elementary for 21 years, retiring in 1986.
She was a volunteer for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, where she served as secretary on the board for several years; volunteered at the Topeka Civic Theatre; and worked part-time in Lou's Place at Aldersgate Village, where she had resided for the past 13 years.
Cleo married Wesley Steanson on May 14, 1950 in Pleasanton. He died July 2, 1999. Survivors include sons, Howard (Carol) Steanson, Berryton, Bruce Steanson, Wichita; granddaughters, Laura and Sarah Steanson; and great granddaughter, Andrea.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 in Wesley Hall at Aldersgate Village. Private family inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care Hospice Services, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
