Clayton P. Wenger

Clayton Philemon Wenger, 90, Topeka, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022. He was born March 30, 1932, to Philip and Tillie Wenger at Morrill, Kansas.

Clayton is survived by his wife of 67 years, Daisy Wenger, of Topeka, Kansas, daughter Debra Oakley (Wes) of Topeka, Kathryn Harding (Brad) of Lenexa, Kansas, nine grandchildren and thirty-two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald Wenger, Devere Wenger, and Vance Wenger. Surviving sisters, Eloise Brunner (Robert) of Hoyt, Kansas and Shirley Webber of Fall City, Nebraska.

Clayton was in the Army from 1953 until 1955 as part of the 10th Infantry Division. He was last stationed in Houston, Texas, serving as a personal specialist, obtaining the rank of sergeant and received the National Defense Service Medal.

In 1957 Clayton, Daisy and family moved to Topeka Kansas where he worked for 34 years as machinist for both Seymour Foods and Welch Manufacturing.
Clayton enjoyed fishing, camping, water skiing, and golf. He also enjoyed coaching his daughters in fastpitch softball. Clayton was both creative and innovative. He utilized his machinist skills making such things as replica antique gas rigs, pumps, and wooden candle stick holders.

He was a long-time member of Town and Country Christian Church of Topeka, Kansas. He was a volunteer for the Harvest's Food Bank distribution and was part of the lawn maintenance team at the church.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Town & Country Christian Church, 4925 SW 29th Street. Inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022 at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home., 1321 SW 10th Street.
