Clayton "Clay" Dodge, 92, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013.
He was born December 4, 1920, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of William and Ellen (Handley) Dodge. Clay graduated from Topeka High School, attended Washburn University before joining the Navy, and later graduated from the Institute of Economics at the University of Southern California.
Clay married Geraldine "Gerry" Kliewer on April 23, 1944, in Lawrence, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 30, 2012.
Clay enjoyed travel and escorted overseas tours, especially in Europe. He was a volunteer at the Capper Foundation, and was active in the Topeka Shriners Lodge #17. Golf and oil painting were two of his favorite hobbies. He was also a member of First Congregational Church, where he served as deacon and taught Sunday school.
Clay worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 38 years, retiring in 1979. Clay belonged to the Southwestern Claim Conference and in 1979, was elected Chairman of the National Freight Claim and Damage Prevention Division, Association of American Railroads.
He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter and his sister, Eunice Elliott.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Davis and husband, Dr. Chester, Topeka; son, Robert Dodge, Thiensville, Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Duane Kliewer and wife, Annette, Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Germaine Wong and husband, Han-Chiat, Alex Davis and wife, Rena, Luke Dodge and wife, Lynn, and April Dodge; and great granddaughter, Anna Yu-Ting Wong.
Mr. Dodge was cremated and graveside services will be private. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at First Congregational Church, Topeka.
