Clayton Frost

After 84 years, Clayton L. Frost, Topeka, went to be with his Lord on Thurs. Nov. 27, 2008 at Midland Hospice House. Clayton was welcomed into the family of Robert M. and Alice M. Hundley Frost when he was born on Mar. 21, 1924 in Lawrence, KS as the family's second child.
The year of 1942 was an exciting time for Clayton. He married his high school sweetheart, Edith M. Mitchell, on Mar. 15, 1942 in Lawrence, KS, graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence, KS in the spring and enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in December. Clayton served in WWII in the SW Pacific and Asiatic Pacific theaters as a heavy equipment operator and was honorably discharged in January of 1946 at the rank of Tech Sergeant Fourth Grade.
A 46 year member of the Quivira Heights Church of Christ, Clayton was involved in the World Bible School program and various ministries of the church. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Clayton owned and operated his own excavating company in the Lawrence, KS area and retired from the City of Topeka Water Department as a welder after 23 years.
Preceding Clayton in death were his parents, three brothers (also WWII veterans), R. Merlin, Delmer G., and John M. Frost and two sisters, Betty A. Humble and June M. Howard.
Those cherishing the memory of Clayton include his wife, of the home, daughters, JoAnn (Steve) Kirk, Topeka; and Linda G. Frost, Neosho Rapids, KS; Son, Robert "Bob" M. Frost, Topeka; Grandchildren, Christa (Ron) Webber, Sarasota, FL; Josie (Mike) Kirk-Pagel, Topeka; and Liesel (Brad) Kirk-Fink, Topeka; Great grandchildren, Chloe, Cavan and Coco Webber; Titan and Taylen Pagel; and Grayson and Payton Fink.
Clayton was a big "teddy bear" of a man. His life was defined by his love of family and friends, his love of country, and by his faith.
Sharing more than 66 years of marriage, Edith was absolutely the love of his life. The struggles they endured over the years were overcome by their mutual devotion. Clayton took jobs that he must have hated just to feed his family, yet everyone was always welcome to dinner at his home.
He was incredibly proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and they were incredibly devoted to being by his bedside and comforting him through his last days.
His loving son-in-law called Clayton "Pappa". To the "great grands" he was known as "Big Pappa". They loved visiting him and to him their visits represented pure joy.
To Clayton, whether you were his own brother or sister or child, or whether you were an in-law made no difference, he loved and treated you the same.
Clayton was truly an example of America's daily heroes whose lives go largely unnoticed. God bless you, Big Pappa and thank you for your example.
