Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Clay Edwin Blanton, 80, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Brewster Place Health Center.
He was born August 5, 1927 in Norman, Oklahoma. He attended schools throughout Oklahoma and Texas, including High School in Pampa, Texas and the University of Oklahoma. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha under the U.S. Army Bootstrap program.
Colonel Blanton served in the U. S. Army from 1945 to 1978. He came to Topeka in 1975, where he was assigned as the Deputy Senior Army Advisor to the Kansas Army National Guard. Following his retirement from the Army, he was associated with Griffith & Blair Realtors until 1985.
He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Shawnee Country Club, the YMCA Athletic Club and the Kaw Valley Chapter of the Retired Officer's Association.
He married Margie Ann Goddard in Pampa, Texas on June 22, 1947. She died February 14, 2005. Survivors include daughters, Holly Annette Pitchford, Plano, TX, Debora Nanette Wolf, Henderson, NV, Christe Mariette Potter, Davison, MI; son, Haloran Clay Blanton, McCall, ID; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers, Duane H. Blanton and Waldo L. Blanton, both of Noble, OK; and a sister, Karen Sue Grubel, Sioux City, IA.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2008. Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC.
