Claude Tyson Vickers, Jr. passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Presbyterian Manor in Topeka. He was born on June 26, 1918 in Winnsboro, Texas to Claude Tyson, Sr. and Nollie Mae (Gorman) Vickers.
He attended schools in Winnsboro, TX through high school and studied business at the University of Texas in Austin. Claude was a clerk in the auditor's office for the Santa Fe General Office Building in Galveston, TX, later transferring to Topeka. After 35 ½ years of service, he retired on July 1, 1978 from the Santa Fe Railroad Industries. On April 24, 1954 he married Annie Melton Miller in Galveston, TX, she preceded him in death on May 5, 1986. He later married Florebell (May) Dyer in Topeka, KS in 1987, she preceded him in death on May 15, 2000. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church.
He is survived by his sister Sara Hoffman of Winnsboro, TX; nephew Ray Hoffman and his wife Robin of Winnsboro, TX; step-daughter, Martha Crow and her husband Mike of Topeka; step-son Stephen Dyer and his wife Ruth of Manhattan, KS; and three step-grandsons and one step-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bert Vickers.
Cremation is planned and a celebration of his life will be held at First Southern Baptist Church on Thursday, July 16 at 2:00 p.m. Private family inurnment will take place at Lee Cemetery in Winnsboro, TX. The family would like to thank the staff at Presbyterian Manor for the many kindnesses shown during his residence there.
