Clarence J. Gideon: Born November 9, 1926 in Delia, Kansas, departed on January 16, 2015.
After taking summer school during the summer of 1944 in order to graduate from high school early and join the U.S. Army, he graduated from Topeka High in December of 1944, and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific theater with the 52nd Field Artillery Battalion of the U.S. Army from March of 1945 until December of 1946, when he was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
Clarence Gideon obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Washburn University (1949) and a L.L.B. from the Washburn University School of Law (1956). He was a member of the Kappa Sig and Delta Theta Phi fraternities. He practiced law in North Topeka for 12 years, and purchased control of The Silver Lake Bank in 1968. The Bank remains family owned 47 years later.
He was the son of Clarence Theodore and Anna Reilly Gideon. He is survived by his wife, Jane, his three (3) children and eight grandchildren, C. J. Gideon, Jr. (Cecile) (Jake, Laura, Natalie and Rachel), Nashville, Tennessee; Patrick Gideon (Karen) (Austin and Nicholas), Topeka; Kerry Martin (Sam) (Alyssa and Nathan), Topeka, his sisters Jo Warnken, Naples, FL. and Marjorie Hersh, of Topeka and his brother Clifton Gideon of Topeka.
The family would like to especially thank Drs. Ricci, Welton, Einspahr, Roeder, Allen, hospitalists and the staff of Stormont Vail Hospital who provided not only great care to Clarence but also to the family. Their professionalism, kindness and attention were very much appreciated.
A celebration of Clarence's life will be held from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7 at Serendipity, 820 N. Kansas Ave. in Topeka.
