Clarence Dahlstrom

October 5, 1922 — March 24, 2014

Clarence "Tuck" Dahlstrom, 91, passed away on March 24, 2014, at Lexington Park Nursing Facility. He was born October 5, 1922, the son of Gotthard and Agnes Stenman Dahlstrom. He attended Topeka public schools and graduated from Topeka High School in 1940. Clarence married his childhood sweetheart, Dorothy Tudhope, on October 16, 1943. They celebrated 70 years of marriage in October 2013.

Clarence was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, proudly serving his country from 1942 to 1946 with the 27th Combat Engineers in New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan. Upon returning home from the war, he went into the construction business with his father. He continued in construction until his retirement in 1985.

Clarence was a member of Carpenters Union #1445. He was also a former member of Topeka Home Builders and Sertoma and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1650. He was a long time member of Potwin Presbyterian Church, where he had served as Deacon and Trustee.

Clarence and Dorothy both retired in 1985 and spent many happy years traveling, enjoying hobbies and spoiling grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Virginia; and brothers, Frank, Harold and Robert. Clarence is survived by his wife Dorothy; two daughters, Diane Whitlow, Lee's Summit, MO, and Marilyn Schneider and her husband, Robert, Topeka; four grandchildren, David Whitlow and his wife, Melanie, Grain Valley, MO, Melissa Whitlow, Denver, CO, Scott Schneider and his wife, Erin, and Rebecca Schneider, Topeka; and seven great grandchildren, Emma, Charlotte, Noah, Zackary, Katelyn, Tiffany and Spencer. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and best friend, Howard Tudhope. Clarence was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66604. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Mr. Dahlstrom will lie in state from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Potwin Presbyterian Church, 400 SW Washburn, Topeka, KS 66606.
