Clarajean Patricia "Jean" Gooden, 84, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Midland Hospice House.
Jean was born September 4, 1928 in Topeka, the daughter of Malcom and Helen (Cumpton) Faust. She attended Topeka public schools and Cosmetology school in Arkansas.
She was employed by Peletier's Department Store, Crosby Brothers, and First Christian Apartments, retiring in 1990.
She was a member of Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene, active in Shepherd's Center of Topeka, Gideon's International, Red Hat Ladies and N.A.R.F.E.
Jean married Duane Roy Gooden on July 13, 1946 in Topeka. He died May 3, 2002. Survivors include daughters, Carol (Harold) Barnett, Udall, Janet (Mike) Batley, Gardner; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Delores McGill, Orangevale, CA, and Marylou Ayling, Bend, OR. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Austin Michael Barnett.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 14 2013 at Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Jean will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
