Clara "Marie" (Brandt) Burrell, 90, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015, at Aldersgate Village, Topeka.
Marie was born April 11, 1925, in Topeka, KS, to Paul G. and Olga E. (Koch) Brandt. Marie graduated from Topeka High School in 1942 and Washburn University in 1946. She taught at Williamsburg High School in 1946 & 47 and at Auburn Rural High School from 1947 to 1950. She also taught 6th grade at Orangethorpe Elementary School in Fullerton, CA from 1956 to 1960 and Memorial Elementary School in Tustin, CA from 1960 & 1961.
She married James M. Burrell on February 18, 1947, in Burlington, KS.
Marie was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral. She was a life member of the Auxiliary of Philip Billard Post 1650 of the VFW and the Women of the Moose.
She is survived by her three sons, Jay M. Burrell and his wife, Valdeana, of Overland Park, KS, Dean L. Burrell and his wife, Beth, of Topeka, and Steven L. Burrell and his wife, Cathy, of Topeka; two daughters, Linda Gallaway and her husband, Dale, of Topeka, and Janet K. Burrell, of Excelsior Springs, MO; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two brothers, Paul Brandt, Jr. and Jimmie Brandt.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2015, at Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 701 SW 8th Street, Topeka, KS 66603. Burial will follow at Topeka Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS.
