Clara Mae Self, 78, of Topeka, passed away, Wednesday. June 28, 2006 at Midland Hospice House, Topeka.
She was born November 19, 1927 in Beatrice, NE the daughter of Frank and Noma Wiese Reed.
She married Chester T. Self April 12, 1946 in Topeka, Kansas. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, Rickey Reed Self and Nickey Lee Self both of Topeka, three sisters, Myrtle Denney, Topeka; Frances Warboys, Lincoln, NE; Cleo Smith, Pine River, MN; her grandchildren, Jayson , Jared, Chet, Lindsay, her great grandchildren, Savannah, Channing, Dakoda, Ellowynn, and Samuel. She was preceded in death by her son Laverne, two brothers and two sisters.
Clara was a foster parent from 1963 until March 12, 1984. During this time she parented over 60 foster children from all over Kansas.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2006 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Self will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 6:00 pm until 7:00pm that evening.
