Clara Jane Johnson, 82, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center.
She was born April 7, 1926 in Kanorado, the daughter of Hollie J. and Grace E. Miller Hickson.
Clara was an elementary school teacher for 38 years. She began teaching when she was 16 years old in a one room schoolhouse. She retired in 1987. She was a member of First Christian Church and the Swinging Squares square dance club for 25 years, both in Topeka, and the V.F.W. auxiliary in Goodland.
Clara married Francis L. Frey on September 9, 1946 in Goodland. He passed away January 26, 1959. She married Harold L. Johnson on July 15, 1962 in Goodland. He survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Karen L. Singer of Topeka; a son, Quigg J. Frey of Wilmington, DE; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her brother, Rex Hickson.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Road, Topeka 66604.
