Chloe E. Anderson Atkinson, 85, formerly of Topeka, Kansas died at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska on Saturday, January 4, 2003. She was born September 9, 1917 at Meriden, Kansas to Robert E. and Edith M. Boydston Anderson.
She graduated from Meriden High School in 1936. She enjoyed the piano and accompanied the high school orchestra. She attended Emporia State Teacher's College and Clarks Business College.
During WWII she helped operate Andy's Cafe on Dead Man's Corner. In 1945 she went to work for Ray Beers Clothing Store as a switchboard operator. In 1955 she started working for the Topeka State Hospital as a dictaphone operator. She retired in 1981.
She married Tom Atkinson on April 25, 1981. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1999. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Breakfast Club. She also was a member of the Business Women's League. She moved to Grand Island, NE in 2000.
She is survived by a sister, Meryln Anderson of Grand Island, NE; 2 nieces and 2 nephews; 3 great-nieces and 3 great-nephews; 1 great-great-niece and 1 great-great-nephew.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 11, 2003 in Klasse Chapel at First United Methodist Church. Cremation is to follow the service. Inurnment will be at a later date. Mrs. Atkinson will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2003 at Penwell Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
