Chester Floyd Templer, 85, of Rossville, died Tuesday, February 13, 2007. He was born December 22, 1921 to Pearl Victoria Shannon Templer and Chester Arthur Templer at Bird City, Kansas.
He grew up in Moline, Kansas, and graduated from Moline High School. Mr. Templer graduated from Kansas State University with B.S. and M.S. degrees, member of Phi Delta Kappa, Honorary Education Society, and did graduate work at Texas Tech University. He enlisted in the Army in August of 1942 and served in the Kansas Army National Guard after WWII, and was a plans and training officer for the KNG in the late 50's before being called back to active duty in 1961. He retired from the KNG as a Major, Ord. Corp.
Mr. Templer taught HS at Paola, Abilene, & Topeka High School, and Supt. of Schools, in Chapman, and Fort Leavenworth KS. He was an Assistant Professor of Accounting at Emporia University and Cost Accounting Teacher at Kansas State University. Mr. Templer retired from teaching at Washburn Rural High School, Topeka, in 1984. He was a past member of the Lions Club (Paola), Rotary Club (Leavenworth), and Kiwanis Club (Eskridge). He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, National Education Association, Topeka Retired Teachers, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion.
Lt. Templer married Lt. Marie Louise Boettcher, ANC, at Fort Shafter, Hawaii on August 11, 1945. She survives.
Survivors include three children, Pamela Kay Schuetz and husband, John, Topeka, KS; Paula Mercer and husband Tom, Topeka, KS; James A. Templer and wife, Terese, Lenexa, KS; one brother, William "Woody" Templer and wife, Lucy, Leota, KS; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and four step granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his brother, Adrian "Temp" Templer and daughter-in-law, Joni Templer.
A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2007 at
Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Private inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
