Chester "Chet" R. Evans Jr., 70, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011.
He was born June 27, 1941 in Webb City, MO, the son of Chester R. and Ruth (Bull) Evans.
Chet was a graduate of Highland Park High School, Calvary Bible College, and received a master's degree from Moody Bible Institute.
Mr. Evans was the founding pastor of Southwest Topeka Bible Church and was the senior pastor until retiring in 2009.
Mr. Evans was a member of T.H.E. Archery Club, Free State Fly Fishing Club, was a certified concealed carry instructor, and a member of the TPD Citizens Academy Ambassadors.
Chet married Andrea Petropoulos on April 28, 1962, in San Francisco, she survives. Other survivors include four children, Randy (Tanya) Evans, Lisa Narron, close family friend Gary Price, Scott (Jennifer) Evans, and Brad (Kimberli) Evans; twelve grandchildren; two sisters, Carole Evans and Janet Myers; a niece, Carrie (Dean) Benton.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Topeka Bible Church, 1135 SW College Ave. Topeka, 66604. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Mr. Evans will lie in state after 3 p.m., Monday, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Southwest Topeka Bible Church, 4141 SW 53rd St. Topeka, KS 66610 or to Midland Hospice, 200 Southwest Frazier Circle Topeka, KS 66606.
