Cheryl Reshaw Kester, born May 3, 1940 in Winner, South Dakota to William and Lorraine Reshaw and who was the loving wife of John Kester, passed away on August 14, 2021 in Topeka, KS.
Cheryl went to school at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital, graduating with a nursing degree in 1961. That was where she met John on a double date and also made lifelong friendships with her fellow graduates culminating in several winter journeys as a group to Texas. Cheryl had a long career as a registered nurse, both in IV therapy and in emergency departments across Topeka hospitals before retiring from Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital.
Cheryl and John were married June 23, 1961, celebrating 60 years of marriage this year.
Cheryl was a lifetime member of the Community of Christ Church, loved quilting and was a member of Kansas Capital Quilting Guild as well as the Topeka Needlework Guild, enjoyed playing board games or cards with family and friends, and cherished celebrating every event, no matter how big or small, with her daughters, grandchildren and cadre of friends.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, John, sister, Sara Reshaw, daughters, Amy Kester-Niehaus (Craig), Kate Grover (Michael), Bonny Kester, Kara Fairbanks and eleven grandchildren, Ian, Colby, Amanda, Thomas, Abbey, Jeffery, Callie, Zane, Regan, Levi and Joshua. She is predeceased by her parents and her brother, William Reshaw.
Honoring Cheryl's wishes, cremation will take place. A public visitation will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604. Masks are required for attendance to the visitation. A private memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 21, 2021.
