Charles W. "Chuck" Mooneyham, 81, died on Tuesday, Nov 6 at the home after a short battle with lung cancer.
He was born Aug 9, 1931, in Spiro, OK, the son of William and Gladys (Cariker) Mooneyham. He joined the Air Force at 17 and was a radio operator on B-29's. While stationed at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, he married Elise Marie Holtwick on May 11, 1952. After serving in the Air Force, Chuck was hired on at Santa Fe Railroad as a telegraph operator and was later positioned as dispatcher and station agent. He was employed at Santa Fe until he retired Aug 1993, after 41 years. He was an alumnus of Washburn University, an Arab Shriner and active member of Gage Park Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Elise; two sons, David C. (Rose) Mooneyham of Topeka, Eric W. (Trina) Mooneyham of Albuquerque; daughter, Susan E. "Sue" (Loren, Jr.) Laird of Kansas City, MO; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Sat, Nov 10 at Gage Park Baptist Church, 3705 SW 10th Ave, with interment at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Gage Park Baptist Church directly following the committal service for a luncheon. Chuck will lie in state at 1:00 PM on Friday, Nov 9 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
