Charles F. Tyrrell, Jr., 86, of Topeka died Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at St. Francis Health Center. He was born January 30, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Charles F. and Ethel Mulligan Tyrrell, Sr.
Charles served in the Army Air Force. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and served as a bombardier on B-24's. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with six oak leaf clusters among other medals for his bravery. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 56 years. He retired from his career as an electrician in Topeka at 64. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and spending time working on his lawn and flower garden.
He married Alberta L. Willett, June 1, 1942 in Topeka, Kansas. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Charles F. Tyrrell, III and his wife Virgene, Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Mary Reynolds, Chicago, Ill; Jean Vaughn, San Francisco CA; a grandson, Patrick Tyrrell, Lawrence, Kansas; three step-grandchildren, Benjamin Martin and his wife Angela, Austin, Texas; Zachary Martin, Columbia, Missouri; and Alexa Martin, Kirksville, Missouri.
Cremation is planned. The family is planning a private family memorial service.
