Charles A. Schaible, 61, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at home. Born in Sabetha, Kansas on December 2, 1947, the son of Charles M. and Carol (Miller) Schaible.
He was a graduate of Fairview High School in 1965; Kansas State University in 1969 with a BS in Physical Science and Southern School of Optometry in 1974.
Charlie married Jane Strahan on August 12, 1972 in Hiawatha, Kansas. They were married for 36 years.
He was a member of the Kansas Optometric Association; fellow of the American Academy of Optometry; Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Topeka.
Family and friends were a very important part of Charlie's life.
He enjoyed snow skiing, running, mountain climbing and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Jane of the home; one son, Christopher Schaible of Mission, KS; his parents of Fairview, KS; sister, Charlet White of Topeka; nieces and nephews: Austin and Sarah White, Amanda Hinton, Jeremy and Linnie Arnesen.
Charlie will lie in state from 2:00-4:00 p.m. today, May 22 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Visitation will be at Faith Lutheran Church between 5:00-7:00 p.m. this evening. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice in memory of Charles A. Schaible.
