Charles S. Fisher, Jr.

Charles Stephen Fisher, Jr., 79, Topeka, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2007 at his home with his wife by his side. He was born on March 27, 1928 to Charles S. Fisher and Ann Bernice McEnulty Fisher-Graham. Charles practiced law in Topeka for many years, serving as City Attorney from 1957-1958 before retiring in 2004 to enjoy life here and at his home at the Ocean Reef Club, Key Largo, Florida. He served in the Navy in World War II, in the Pacific and the Air Force during the Korean War. He was admitted to the bar, after graduating from Washburn University Law School in 1951. Charles was a member of Phi Alpha Delta, the Washburn Law Review Board in 1951, a lecturer for Trial Practice at Washburn Law School from 1959-1972, the Kansas Bar Association where he served as Chairman of the Aviation Section in 1974 and as President from 1975-1976, the American Bar Association and served on the Board of Governors in 1973, the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association where he was a member of the Trial Tactics Committee in 1972, the American Board of Trial Advocates where he served as the Kansas Chapter President, the College of Trial Lawyers, and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He was listed in all editions of the Best Lawyers in America: category Personal Injury for Plaintiff. He was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, deep-sea fishing, pilot, horseman and cattleman. He was a breeder of Charlais cattle. He also raced his Porsche in competition for five years. Charles married Doris Marie Meldrum. They were divorced. Charles later married Ella Marie in 1965. She survives. Combining two families, Charles has three sons, Michael of Akumal, Mexico, Mark of Wichita, Charles, III of Topeka, four daughters, Cheryl Cailteux and husband, Cletus of Auburn, Linda Spencer and husband, Darrell of Topeka, Janet Webster of Topeka, Anita Longoria and husband, Ernie of Coppell, TX, four step-daughters, Vicki Peterson and husband, Gary of Topeka, Kay Mettner and husband, Randy of Topeka, Sue Bolley of Topeka and Cindy Sundgren of Rosalia, KS, eight grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and eleven step-great-grandchildren. Charles will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Rose Croix services conducted by Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies will also take place. Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society Building Fund, 2625 NW Rochester Road, Topeka, KS 66617 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
