Charles E. "Ed" Robertson, 71, Topeka, died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Midland Hospice House.
He was born May 14, 1941 in Greensburg, KS, the son of Bennett and Dora Baker Robertson. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1959. He married Faith Mitchum. They later divorced. He worked for the Kiowa County Signal before attending Kansas State University. He joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1966-1970 on the submarine, USS Chivo. He came to Topeka in 1971, where he graduated from Washburn University majoring in Accounting.
Ed worked for the Topeka Capital-Journal for 35 years, retiring as Production Manager in 2006.
He was an avid golfer and K-State fan.
He married Mary Schwartz on November 29, 1975 in Hanover, KS. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Brian (LeAnn) Robertson of Hutchinson; two daughters, Nicole (Rick) Magni of Yorba Linda, CA and Marlina (Jason) Yates of Mission, KS; one sister, Peg (Ken) Banta of Greensburg; two brothers, Jerry (Margaret) Robertson of Salina and Jack Robertson of Wichita; four grandchildren, Kyle (Jenny) Robertson of Wamego, Jackson Magni, Olivia Magni, and Harper Magni, all of Yorba Linda, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jeff Robertson.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg.
Ed will lie in state after noon today at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
