Charles Nelson Henson, Jr., 83, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2014. He was born November 14, 1930 in Belleville, Kansas to Charles Nelson and Alice Harbers Henson. He was married to Sally Francis on June 17, 1967 in Topeka.
Charles graduated in 1952 from the University of Kansas where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. In 1955, he graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law and was a member of Phi Delta Phi.
After serving in the United States Air Force as an officer in the Judge Advocate General's department, he returned to Topeka to become an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Kansas. He then went into private practice and practiced law for 52 years. It was one of his great joys.
Charles was a member of the American Bar Association and was a Fellow of the American Bar. As a member of the Topeka Bar Association, he served as its president, and he belonged to the Kansas Bar Association.
Charles was an active member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral where he was a member of the cathedral vestry. He enjoyed being involved in the Topeka community where he was president of the Downtown Topeka Rotary Club and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as Chairman of the Board for the Topeka Community Foundation and as president of the Fortnightly Club. He was also a member of A.F. & A.M.
His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sally Francis Henson, daughters Meg (Jay) Propes of Austin, Texas and Anne (Joe) Klingman of Littleton, Colorado. His grandchildren are Walker and William Propes, Sarah and Caroline Casson, and Alexandria Klingman. Also surviving is his brother, Harold Henson of Prairie Village, Kansas.
Services will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 10:00 am at Grace Episcopal Cathedral. Cremation is planned.
