Charles J. Myers, 95, a lifelong resident of the Topeka area, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2005 at Midland Hospice House. He was born March 27, 1910 on a farm in rural Shawnee County near Auburn, KS, the son of Joseph Avery and Gertrude Mae Price Myers.
Charles was a cement finisher and contractor in the Topeka area. He attended Auburn High School.He served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Technician in France during World War II. He was a member of Seabrook United Church of Christ where he served as deacon and on the church board. He was on the school boards for Wanamaker Elementary and Auburn-Washburn school board for 25 years. He was a member of Philip Billard Post #1650 V.F.W., and life member of Local #44 Cement Masons Union. He also served on the Mission Center Cemetery board.
He married Marguerite Lola Bayless April 23, 1930 in Topeka, Kansas. She passed away Feb. 10, 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elizabeth Mann; brother, Kenneth Carl Myers; and a grandson, Kevin Scott Smith who passed away Feb. 2, 2004.
Surviving family includes, one daughter, Charita Cunningham and her husband Gary, Topeka; two sons, Charles M. Myers and his wife Bobbie, Pensacola, FL; Brandon Myers and his wife Beth, Auburn; eleven grandchildren, Clyde Joseph Myers and wife Kay, Christopher John Myers, Kendall Smith and wife Christine, Kelly McFarland and husband Barry, Cindi Smith, Brooke Smith and husband Todd, Katie Myers and Ben Myers; step-grandchildren, Alan Cunningham and wife Kim; Tim Cunningham and wife Linda; Sarah Ritter and husband Ryan; eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2005 at Seabrook United Church of Christ. Interment will be in West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Myers will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
