Charles L. Cook, 88, of Topeka, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Midland Hospice House. He was born September 2, 1921 in Osawatomie, KS to Calvin and Pearl Cook.
He married Marjorie Georgianne Spacek in 1942. She preceded him in death. He married Nancy Ladner Sloan in 1979. She survives. Also surviving is a son, Charles "Vince" (Shirley) Cook of Topeka; son Brad (Linda) Sloan of Topeka; daughter Susan (Mark) Houk of Springfield, MO; and daughter-in-law, Ann Cook, Texas.
Charlie was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Charlie worked 14 years for the AT&SF Railway. While there he was called and served in World War II in the Signal Corp, radio intelligence division in the Pacific. He was in retail business for himself for 5 years. He retired from the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in 1986 with 25 years of service.
Preceding him in death was a son, James "Jim"; sister, Roberta Atkins; brothers, Clifford, Fredric, William, Claude, Calvin, Leonard and Melvin; and great grandson, Noah.
Memorial services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
