Charles Irvin Schneider, Silver Lake, died February 2nd, 2014.
He was born to Irvin and Gertrude Schneider on March 27, 1929 in Salina, Kansas. He graduated from Enid High School and received his bachelors degree from Phillips University, both in Enid, Oklahoma. Charles earned his Masters and Ed.s degrees in education from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, KS. He enlisted in the Army in 1946 and served in the Armed Forces Radio Services in Japan. Upon returning, he married the love of his life, Joyce Morlan. They were married 64 years.
Charles taught school for four years, then spent 20 years as school superintendent at Melvern, Lansing and Hamilton, Kansas school districts. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion.
Charles was an avid golfer and loved to read and fish. His pride and joy was spending time with his family. He was affectionately called "Bop" by his grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Debbie Downs. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, daughter Phoebe Doerr (Tom), Silver Lake; five grandchildren, Ryan Doerr, Megan Renfro (Mike), Jaime Panowicz (Bob), Lori Hodge (Tab), and Kelsey Ecton (Bob) and four great-grandchildren, Brogan, Brody and Ben Renfro, and Hailey Doerr.
Services will be Friday, February 7, 1pm at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Mr. Schneider will lie in-state from 3:00-7:00pm on Thursday.
