Charles Eugene Grandell, 90 of Denton, Texas passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Medical City-Denton.
He was born January 22, 1931 in Muncie, Indiana to Harold James Grandell and Mildred E. (Pierce) Grandell. He graduated from Hughes High School in Cincinnati in 1949.
Charles enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on February 26, 1951 and was a veteran of the Korean War. After being Honorably Discharged at the rank of Sargent on February 25, 1954 he returned to Cincinnati and graduated from Art School in 1957. Charles then moved to Topeka, Kansas where he was employed as a Graphic Artist with "General Printing & Paper" for many years before eventually starting his own business "Graphics by Grandell". He retired at 62 in 1993 and moved from Topeka to Corpus Christi, Texas where he was able to pursue his passion of playing golf every day with his brother "Jim" and many new friends. He was very active in the Marine Corps League, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and was very proud of his service to his country as we also were very proud of him. In 2012, "Chuck" as he was known to family and friends, moved from Corpus Christi to Little Elm, Texas to be closer to his son, Steve. Chuck and Steve enjoyed going to football & baseball games, playing golf and having a close father and son relationship that will always be cherished. In 2018, he moved to Denton, Texas where he was able to make even more new friends that will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father Harold James Grandell Sr., mother Mildred E. (Pierce) Grandell, brother Harold James Grandell Jr., aunt, Wilna Marvel, cousin, Bill Marvel, niece Michelle Grandell and nephew Troy Grandell.
He is survived by his sons' mother, Nancy Vaughn, son Steven Grandell, stepdaughter Jennifer Ralston, nephews: David Grandell, Riley Grandell, Marc Grandell, Jeff Grandell, Jason Grandell, Zackery Grandell, Bryan Grandell, Chad Grandell, Aaron Grandell, Kyle Roback and Cross Grandell. Nieces: Nika Roback, Gabrielle Grandell, Angel Grandell, Chrisanda Grandell, Kylie Grandell and many other extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
There will be a viewing at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas on Saturday, February 20 from 12 to 4pm and Sunday, February 21 from 12 to 4pm.
Funeral services in Topeka will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 W. 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604. Interment with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m., until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
We thank God for the many, many years of love, devotion and kindness that this beloved man provided for his family and friends. Although we are all suffering through the loss of his presence, his love, laughter and the memories that he left behind will live in our hearts forever.
