Charles Edwin Chenoweth


Charles Chenoweth went to be with his lord on the evening of February 22, 2006. He was a very tender, loving, and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was born on March 16, 1925 in Parsons, Kansas to Cary Ross Chenoweth and Lela Chenoweth. He attended grade school through high school in Parsons. Charles followed his father's career path as a railroad worker. He initially worked for the Katy Railroad after High School graduation in Parson, Kansas. He enlisted in the Navy July of 1943 and served his country during WWII for four years. He returned from the war and went back to work for the Katy Rail road. He enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1949. Charles married Tina E. Banzet on February 1, 1950 in Bentonville, AK. He was called to active duty in June 1950 and served in Korea from December 1950 until April 1952. After returning from Korea he returned to work for the Katy Railroad. He moved his family to Topeka in 1961 where he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad until retirement in 1985. He owned a farm near Parsons that provided many enjoyable outings for the family. He enjoyed spending time with his two son's camping, fishing, attending Boy Scout functions, and little league baseball. He loved nature and was a true conservationist. He had an inventive mind and at one point in his career he lived out his dream of inventing and patenting unique implement to serve the rail road industry. He spent many pleasurable hours during retirement with his wife acquiring, selling and trading antiques. He also enjoyed attending numerous reunions with his Navy and Army comrades. He was preceded in death by two sisters Juanita and Marjorie, his father and mother. He is survived by his wife Tina Chenoweth of 56 years, a son David Chenoweth and his wife Elizabeth of Lafayette, Colorado, a son Todd Chenoweth of Topeka and a granddaughter Amanda Chenoweth of Seattle, Washington. Charles and his wife attended the Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene. Charles was cremated and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday February 25, 2006 at the Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, 3501 S.W. Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, KS 66614 or theTopeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66608 or the Salvation Army, 1320 S.E. 6th Ave., Topeka, KS 66607 Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
