Charles "Bus" Kasper Portman passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, January 15, 2006.
Charles was born on October 6, 1911 in Springfield, MO to Gus and Alice Portman.
Charles is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Charles and wife, Gina, of Tulsa, Ok; grandsons David, Geoff and Andy; daughter, Kathy Portman of Overland Park, KS; brother, Bill and wife, Carolyn, of Lenexa, KS; as well as four nephews and three nieces.
His sister, Helen Manasse predeceased him.
In 1973, Charles retired after working as an insurance adjuster for General Adjustment Bureau for 37 years. He then went to work for Kansas Mutual Insurance Company in the same capacity and worked 10 more years until he was 72 years old. He was a member of the Elks Club and the Blue Goose.
Charles was a gentle, soft-spoken man with a very congenial manner. He was a golfer, football fan, and a lover of Betty's cooking.
He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
A memorial service for "Bus" will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 28 at Mt Hope Cemetery Old Abbey Chapel. Inurnment will also be at Mt Hope Cemetery. He will not lie in state, nor is there a visitation.
