Charles Ray Alexander

Charles Alexander, 97, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Midland Hospice.

He was born September 14, 1921 at Chillicothe, MO the son of James A. and Ruby E. (Marquis) Alexander.
He attended schools in Chillicothe, MO and graduated from Chillicothe Business College. Charles married Eva Elaine Cook on August 18, 1946 in Chillicothe, MO.

Charles was a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations from 1942 until his Honorable Discharge in 1945. He received recognition as an active member of Naval Courts and Boards and was the recipient of the Navy Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the Philippine Liberation RIbbon with one Star.
He was an ordained Elder and long time member of the former John Knox United Presbyterian Church, prior to his current membership at Trinity Presbyterian Church.

He began employment with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1946, retiring in 1979 as Area Maintenance Supervisor.

Charles was a member of the VFW Post No. 1650, American Legion Post No. 1, Lifetime Member of the Telephone Pioneers, MidAmerican Sawdusters Club, Wood Turners Club, Cypress Ridge Golf Club and the Bella Vista, Arkansas Country Club and several dance clubs. He enjoyed playing golf with his wife and friends, traveling and working in his woodworking shop creating and exhibiting his artistic and unique woodwork projects.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; two daughters, Barbara K. (LeRoy) Johnson of Hutchinson, KS and Susan E. (Guy) Andreoni of Edwardsville, IL; two sons, Michael L. (Vicki) Alexander, of Lawrence, KS and Philip G. Alexander of Sarasota, FL.; eight grandchildren, Andrea Johnson, Trisha Johnson, Briton Avis, Sean (Angela) Alexander, Derick Alexander and Cassidy, Chris and Kyle Andreoni and one great granddaughter, Isobel Quinn Alexander and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.

A Funeral Ceremony will be 1:00 pm., Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4746 SW 21st St, Topeka, KS 66604. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Burial will follow the service at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, Topeka, KS.
