Charlene Gay Seefeldt, 80, of Wichita, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
She was born June 14, 1944, in Admire, Kansas on the family farm, the daughter of Charles and Genevieve Seefeldt. She graduated from Northern Heights High School in 1962. She attended Emporia State Teachers College.
Charlene dedicated over 30 years to Amoco Oil and Gas Company as a Terminal Manager, retiring in 1999.
Her greatest passion was baking. Charlene took a lot of time and dedication to create beautiful cookies and sweets for her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening.
Charlene was a strong and independent woman. She survived breast cancer in the early 1980’s, enduring grueling chemotherapy and surgeries which fortunately resulted in the cancer’s remission. She was also a private person who doted on those she loved. Charlene did not want a funeral service, and so in lieu of service, her nephews wanted to relate a few of their memories that her friends and family would appreciate, enjoy, and hopefully relate to themselves.
Starting in the early 1980’s, Charlene would invite her Texas nephews to spend summers with her in Overland Park. Her nephews were eight and six years old when they first visited and would continue through the late 1980’s. She unabashedly spoiled them and in doing so, she created a lifetime of beautiful memories for those nephews to hold into adulthood.
The indulgences started simply with G.I. Joe action figures, visits to the local pool, and shooting fireworks on the family farm. It grew into trips around Kansas to places like Dodge City and expanded to the Ozarks and Silver Dollar City. She took her nephews to a Roy Orbison concert and helped them dig for diamonds in Arkansas. The tears would begin as her nephews headed back to Texas in the fall, but next summer would always bring the promise of a new adventure. Forty years later, it’s with tender fondness that her nephews remember the times spent with their aunt.
Survivors include her brother William Seefeldt of Admire; cousin, Patty Jenkins of Emporia; aunt, Evelyn Smith of Burlingame; nephew, Adam Seefeldt of Fairfax, Virginia; nephew, Aaron Seefeldt of Virginia Beach, Virginia; niece, Andrea Seefeldt of Fort Collins, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Charlene will be laid to rest at Eskridge Cemetery in Eskridge, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Att: Donor Services, PO Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265 in her honor.
