Cedric Moege

Cedric Carl Theodore Moege, 91, died at Midland Hospice House Friday, July 29, 2005.

He was born January 28, 1914, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Herman and Freida Nieman Moege. He was a lifelong resident of the Topeka area. He married Wilma Virginia Lane June 20, 1937. She preceded him in death May 20, 2005.

Survivors include son, Lee Moege and his wife Sally of Holton; daughter Alicia and her husband Patrick Donnelly of Topeka; daughter Virginia "Ginger" Chang and her husband Ruu of Wakarusa; and a sister Berlene D. Stolte of Big Timber, Montana. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren - Elizabeth, Kevin, Jesse, Logan, Andrew, Teresa, and Darcy and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Nancy Moege Zeller.

He lived on the farm near Rossville with his parents before they moved to Topeka to open a grocery business. They ran the IGA Store on 22nd and Buchanan Street. After the death of his father he, his mother, and his sister ran the grocery store. His wife Wilma joined in running the business after their marriage. He worked at Sunflower Ordinance Works from 1943 until after the war. The family ran a variety store at the grocery store location from 1951-1955. He sold Chevrolet cars for Scott-Puffer Chevrolet for a short time before selling investments with Investors Diversified Services. In 1957 he began working for Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent) where he remained until he retired. After retirement he became politically active by writing letters to the editor, testifying before various committees in the State legislature, and being on talk radio.

He and his wife were members of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and attended Hope and St. John's Lutheran Churches. He was very active in Lutheran Layman's League and the Lutheran School Foundation. He was a 55 year member of Shawnee Country Club. He was also a member of the Life Underwriters Association and received many awards including "Man of the Year".

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Topeka. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. He will lie in state at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 12:00 noon Tuesday and one hour before services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made through the funeral home or directly to St. John's Lutheran Church, 901 SW Fillmore, Topeka, 66606, Topeka Lutheran School, 7th and Roosevelt, Topeka, 66606 or Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Cr., Topeka, 66606.
