Cecil Morgan 95, passed away on December 30, 2009.
Mr. Morgan was known by family and friends as Price, C.P. or Morg. Price was born March 20, 1914 in Russelville, KY, the son of J.C. and Myrtine C. Morgan. The family left Kentucky in 1923 moving to Topeka, Kansas settling in Oakland community.
Price attended Oakland Grade School, Holiday Junior High School, graduating from Topeka High. As a young man he worked at McDowel's Grocery Store and local potato farms. In 1935 Price joined Kansas Power & Light as a ground man in Topeka. In 1940 he entered the apprentice lineman program. He became a journey lineman in 1942 and line foreman in 1945. In 1949 he was promoted to general foreman. "Morg" as he was known by his staff continued in this capacity until his retirement. At retirement he had been with KPL forty-eight years. He was a seventy four year member of IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers). Price was a lifetime member of Oakland Presbyterian Church.
He was married to Betty Jean McDermott in January of 1938. She preceded him in death in 1984. He is survived by a son Mack J. Morgan, daughter-in-law Sylvia Carney Morgan, three grandchildren Joel Price Morgan, Daniel William Morgan and Laura Morgan Avery and eight great-grandchildren.
Price was a resident of Homestead for the past three years, where he enjoyed their activities and made many new friends.
Mr. Morgan will lie in state after 2:00 PM Thursday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Family and friends will gather to honor his life from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday. Services will be held Friday January 8, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
