Catherine Marie "Cathie" Werner
Catherine Marie Werner, 93, of Topeka, passed away, Friday, July 23, 2010 at Lexington Park Nursing Facility in Topeka.
Catherine was born November 21, 1916 in Paxico, Kansas the daughter of Joseph C. and Rose M. Meinhardt Werner.
Catherine graduated from Paxico High School and attended Clark's Secretarial School in Topeka.
She worked in Topeka; Washington, D.C.; and New York City. In 1944, she joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in San Diego and San Francisco. Upon discharge in 1946 she worked in Yosemite National Park, California. Later she worked for the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Public Health Services for many years as an Administrative Aide.
In 1975, she returned to Topeka and worked for the Kansas Legislative Services for several sessions.
Catherine was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church.
Survivors include sisters, Viola Bien, Topeka; Rosemary (James) Simons, Topeka; brothers, Myron (Lorraine) Werner, Kansas City, MO; Gene (Marilyn) Werner Topeka; sisters- in- law, Cecelia, Iris and Kathleen Werner; and beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Clarence, Roy, Walt, Ed, Bob and Elmer Werner.
She will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 26 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel . A prayer vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home followed by a family visitation until 8:30 p.m. that evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Mater Dei Parish, Holy Name Catholic Church. Cremation will follow. Inurnment will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday July 31, 2010 in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Paxico, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to the organization of the donor's choice or to Mater Dei Parish.
