Catherine Davis Haynes, 97, Topeka died July 15, 2004 in a Topeka nursing home. She was born March 24, 1907 in Rossville, Kansas. She was the daughter of Henry Hawkins and Blanche Baird Davis. She graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1925. She belonged to the Lowman Hill United Methodist Church and the Sunshine Group of Lowman's Bus Society. Mrs. Haynes worked in the accounting machine bureau of the Santa Fe Railroad for 22 years until 1949 when she stayed home to raise their son, John Davis Haynes. Catherine Davis and John Shepheard Haynes were married November 20, 1942, in Stanford, Conn. He preceded her in death in February 1, 2003. Survivors are a son John D. and wife Carole D. Haynes, a brother Dale Davis, a sister Mrs. Betty Pence, one step-Granddaughter and two step Great-Grandchildren all of Topeka, KS and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the Mt. Hope Chapel
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Topeka, KS
Mrs. Haynes will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., July 19, 2004 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
