Catherine Auletti

February 4, 1920 — October 21, 2020

Catherine "Kate" (Columby) Auletti, 100, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2020.

She was born February 4, 1920, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Bernard Columby and Teresa (Hagenberg) Columby. She graduated from Saint Mary Star of the Sea in Brooklyn.

While raising her children, she worked for A&P grocers, for the Federal Reserve bank, and made the Dominican Nun's habits (clothing). Kate worked with her son, Richie, in their own deli in Brooklyn for several years, then went to work for the Sisters of the Precious Blood, cloister nuns in Brooklyn, where she was a cook who was dearly loved by all of the nuns. When not working, she loved going out with her sisters, and had many stories to tell about their escapades.

In 2002, after living on her own for 20 years as a widow, she moved to Topeka KS to live with her only daughter, Terry. While there she enjoyed trips with Terry and her family, knitting, sitting on the front porch and watching her favorite shows on TV.

Kate is survived by her children, Terry (Charles) Anderson, Harold (Linda) Auletti, Richard (Kass) Auletti and Chris (Fran) Auletti, 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren and a very loyal and good friend, Kim Wasson, who was a special companion for years up until Kate's passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry (1982), her sons Mickey, Tommy, Peter, and Billy, her sisters Ann, Alice, Tessie, Jackie, Eleanor, Muriel and brothers Harry and Bernie.

A Mass of Christian Burial is pending at this time. Interment will take place at Pine Lawn Cemetery in NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to Harvester's (a monthly food bank) 215 SE Quincy St, Topeka, KS 66603.
