Catharine Louise (Cassie) Dixon, 87, Topeka, passed away December 29, 2006 at Brewster Place Health Center.
She was born April 23, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Robert and Caroline Kroh.
The Dixon's moved to Topeka in 1954, living here until the late 60's. They returned to Topeka in 2001, following residency in St. Louis, Missouri; Denver, Colorado; and Phoenix, Arizona.
Mrs. Dixon graduated from the University Of Kansas School Of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1941. Mr. and Mrs. Dixon were married on Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, 1941. Cassie was employed as an instructor in nursing education at Kansas Neurological Institute and also worked at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka. Her hobbies included reading, quilting, and most of all caring for animals as well as her family.
Mrs. Dixon is survived by her husband of 65 years, George Dixon, who currently resides at
Brewster Health Center; a daughter, Judy Wood, who lives with her husband James in Pittsburgh, PA; three grandchildren, Bradley White of Seattle, Washington; Kirsten Poole of White Salmon, Washington; and Leslie Whitecrow , also of Seattle. There are four great-grandchildren; Ashley and Elizabeth Poole of White Salmon, Washington; and Tess and Forrest O'Reilly of Seattle.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Brewster Place Health Center, 1001 SW 29th Street, in the Fink Living Room. A memorial in Cassie's honor has been established at The Helping Hands Humane Society of Topeka. Contributions in her name may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, Inc., 2625 N.W.
