Cary Shawn Rahmeier, 48, of Topeka, passed away on February 15, 2019 surrounded by friends and family at the Stormont Vail Pavilion ICU.
He was born on September 15, 1970 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Lyle E. Rahmeier and Linda Kay (Laster) Rahmeier.
As a young child, Cary captured everyone's heart. He was the youngest of 4 children. Because he was the youngest, he tended to receive a lot of attention from his brothers and family. He grew up playing with the neighborhood kids, earning nicknames such as Tiny (which he didn't like) then Big C (which he did like). Most of his childhood friends are still telling fond stories of their childhood adventures today. Cary attended Indian Creek Elementary and Northern Hills Jr. High. He loved to play football and played in the Jr. High band. Cary also enjoyed playing football in high school. Cary graduated from Seaman High in 1989. This is where he met his wife Kelly. As seniors they began dating and attended Prom together. After high school, Cary left Topeka to attend Kansas State University, while Kelly went to the University of Kansas. He attended a few semesters then decided to take a job with Falley's in Topeka to be closer to Kelly. He married Kelly (Breuer) on August 28th, 1993. She survives. Other survivors include their children, Ryan Rahmeier and Carly Rahmeier; mother, Linda Kay Everitt; brother, Jeffrey Rahmeier (Linda), and sister-in-law, Kelly Rahmeier.
He worked for Falley's running their warehouse for many years, married Kelly and began a family. After his employment with Falley's he took a job in Kansas City at Liberty Fruit Company as the warehouse manager. After a year, he started his job at Walmart. He quickly grew to love the Walmart Company. He enjoyed his work there and stayed for many years. He loved his coworkers and excelled as an Operations Manager. His coworkers were some of his best buddies.
Cary's favorite pastimes included playing golf, going to concerts, boating, enjoying a beer with friends, shooting guns, riding motorcycles, working on his truck, remodeling the family home and hanging out with his friends and family. He loved spending time with his family that included aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephew. His family was so very special to him.
He was a K-State Football Season ticket holder and absolutely loved tailgating with all his buddies. There he was nicknamed "Big Sexy" and was called that with affection and love. Cary's friends were a huge part of his life. He enjoyed many laughter filled moments with everyone. He was best known for his hilarious joke telling and funny stories. Not only did he make everyone laugh and feel happy, but he could also be described as reliable, compassionate, loyal, and hard working. His best stories were usually about his children, Ryan and Carly. He was always so proud of them. They also attended and graduated from Seaman High School and Kansas State University.
As a child and young adult Cary and his family attended St. John's Lutheran Church. In September of 2017, Fellowship Bible Church became his church home. Cary loved the worship music, the family atmosphere and loved to serve by parking cars. Cary's faith was one to be admired. He loved the Lord and knew Jesus.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lyle E. Rahmeier; siblings, Lisa K. Rahmeier and David A. Rahmeier; and step-father, Roger D. Everitt.
The family will hold a visitation at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Fellowship Bible Church, 6800 SW 10th Street, Topeka. A Celebration of life service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. He will be buried next to his grandparents, father, aunt, and brother and close to his sister. A luncheon at Fellowship Bible Church will be held for friends and family after the graveside service.
While Cary was sick, he was cared for at Stormont Vail's Pavilion ICU by the best doctors and nurses. He had the most amazing nurses who grew fond of him and provided the most amazing care. We would like to honor them with any Memorial contributions. They may be made to Stormont Vail Hospital Foundation - Pavilion ICU Nurses, 1500 SW 10th Topeka, KS 66604.
