Carolyn Stewart
Carolyn Edson Stewart, 98, Topeka, passed away Friday Oct. 31, 2008 at Brewster Place Retirement Community. She was born in Topeka Aug. 21, 1910 the daughter of Frank P. Edson and Carrie F. Clarkson Edson.
Carolyn attended Topeka public schools and graduated from Washburn University in 1931. She was a member of the Topeka Jr. League since 1935, Kappa Alpha Theta, Junior Social Service, Topeka High School Historical Society, The Wilders Society, and The Topeka Public Library. Her passions included volunteering, creating fashion designs, gardening, traveling and reading. Carolyn managed resort hotels and country clubs between the years of 1947-1963.
She was united in marriage to Lt. Col USAF Howard E. Sellards in 1936. He passed away June of 1945. Carolyn was then joined in marriage to Charles W. Wegener in 1947. He passed away in 1970. She married Charles H. Stewart, a Circuit Judge in Kingsman, KS, in 1974. He preceded her in death April of 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Elisabeth E. Bowers and brother, Baurice Clarkson Edson, all of Topeka.
Survivors include: Two nephews, Gordon E. Bowers, Topeka; Shannon E. Bowers, Sun City West, AZ; and niece, Patricia E. Pounders, Richardson, TX.
Carolyn Stewart was one classy woman, always charming and gracious. She was known for her fashion flare with her self designed clothing and hats. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of her presence.
Memorial services will be held at Brewster Place Health Center, 1001 SW 29th St. Topeka, KS at 3:00 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7, 2008. Inurnment will be at Topeka Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation 8740 Founders Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46268 or Helping Hands Humane Society 2625 NW Rochester Rd. Topeka, KS 66618.
