Carolyn Rae McClurg, 61, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at a Topeka hospital. She was born on March 22, 1943 in Gainesville, Texas the daughter of Raymond L. and Ruth Mitchell McClurg. She grew up in Wichita and moved to Topeka in 1970. She graduated from Washburn University and earned a Masters in Social Work at the University of Kansas. She was a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker for the State of Kansas, including SRS and the Mental Health Department. She ran a private practice providing counseling services for several years. She retired in 1999. She was a member of First Christian Church where she participated in the Miriam Circle of the Disciples Women's Group. She was an avid reader and loved music, movies, traveling, especially her trip to Northern Ireland to visit relatives. She enjoyed everything Irish and cherished her dog, Cappi. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond in 2003. Survivors include her mother, Ruth of Tulsa, Oklahoma, her son, David Miller and his fiance, Sharon Black of Auburn, her brother, Jerry and his wife, Marcia of Plano, Texas, many aunts, uncles and cousins. Her close circle of friends were a great source of joy and support which she valued dearly. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Graveside committal services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Maryville, Missouri. Carolyn will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Friday evening.
