Carolyn M. Kappelmann, 81, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. She was born November 16, 1932 in Passaic, NJ, the daughter of Wallace and Hazel Coumbs Maull.
Carol graduated from Rutherford High School in the class of 1950. She attended Mount Holyoke College. She received her BA in Education from Washburn University in 1964 and her MS of Library Science from Emporia State University in 1987.
Carol had a passion for books and spent many years working as a school librarian and after her retirement, she volunteered in elementary school libraries. Carol was long time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, a member of numerous bridge clubs and the neighborhood Nautilus Club. She was an expert at knitting and made Christmas Stockings for her family and friends.
Carol married Keith Kappelmann on February 26, 1953 in Kansas City, MO. He survives. Other survivors include four children, Carolyn Jean Kappelmann of Conroe, TX, Mary (Calvin) Call of Jefferson City, MO, Kimberly Steves of Topeka, Kenneth (Denise) Kappelmann of Lenexa, KS, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Hannah Steves on January 30, 1995.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian Church where the family will receive friends one half hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1275 SW Boswell Ave., Topeka, KS 66604 or to the American Lung Association, 2400 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO 64108.
