Carolyn Jean Fitzgerald

Carolyn Jean Fitzgerald, 98, passed away on May 4, 2024.

Carolyn was born June 25, 1925 in Irving, Kansas, the fourth daughter of six children to Adolph A. and Carrie A. (Luznicky) Kratochvil. She graduated from Hays High School, Hays, Kansas in 1944.

Carolyn began her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone company in Topeka, Kansas in December of 1944. She worked in Topeka, Atchison, Wichita, El Dorado and Salina, Kansas. She later retired in Salina in February 1980 and moved back to Topeka in 1982.

Carolyn was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Topeka and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers.

She married James E. Fitzgerald on October 13, 1962 at the First Presbyterian Church in Topeka, Kansas. He survives. They loved to dance.

Other survivors include her nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and her great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Evelyn Miller, Mildred Luckan, Marcella Buchmeier and Arlene Blanck and brother, Dale Kratochvil.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Mount Hope Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, KS 66604. Her family will greet friends and relatives one hour before the service. Memorial contributions can be made to First Presbyterian Church, 817 SW Harrison St., Topeka, KS 66612.
