Carolyn F. Assam

Carolyn F. Assam, 80, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015 at a Topeka hospital. She was born January 25, 1935 in Topeka, the daughter of Gerald L. and Fern (Reiser) Metsker.
Carolyn graduated from Topeka High School in 1953 and attended Cottey College in Missouri and Washburn College in Topeka where she graduated with a degree in English. She was an accomplished artist and studied art at both Washburn and the University of Hawaii. She had resided in South Dakota where she was a substitute teacher before returning to Topeka in 1976. She was a member of California Acres Church of Christ.
Carolyn married Richard Assam in 1956. He preceded her in death. Survivors include two children, Linda K. (Andreas) Vogel of Lee's Summit, MO, Fred (Becky) Assam of Sioux Falls, SD, three grandchildren, Christina, Jennifer and Richard. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 27, 2015 in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Carolyn will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to California Acres Church of Christ, 2200 SE 21st St., Topeka, KS. 66607.
