Carolyn Chester, 66, Topeka, died Friday, August 1, 2003 at her home. She was born May 25, 1937 in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Cecil Edward and Carolyn Marie Rhodes Chester. She graduated from Wichita North High School and attended Wichita State University. She had resided in Topeka for the past 39 years.
She was employed by the city of Topeka, Parks and Recreation Dept. for 39 years. She currently was the supervisor of the Gage Park Mini-Train, Carousel, and concerts. She had been a director at Crestview Community Center, Garfield Community Center, Rice Community Center, and Oakland Community Center. She had also been a supervisor of concessions and admissions of the Topeka Zoo and the Municipal Auditorium. She was a volunteer at the Helen Hocker Theater and was a previous Helen Hocker Theater board member.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Geneva Rhodes.
She is survived by one brother, Jack E. Chester, Wichita; and one sister, Frances Rivers, Bullard, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Maize Park Cemetery, Maize, Kansas.
Carolyn Chester will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2003 where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
