Caroline E. Martin, 90, of Topeka passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Aldersgate Village. She was born on November 13, 1918 in Newton, Kansas to William C. (Charlie) and Caroline (Crossley) Boon.
Mrs. Martin graduated from Topeka High School in 1937 and Emporia State Teacher's College in 1939. She was a pre school teacher, homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. On August 11, 1940 she married Phillip L. Martin in Topeka. He preceded her in death in August 1977. She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Martin is survived by her children, Judy Heldberg of Pacifica, CA; Nancy Tucker of Emporia, KS; Carol McBride of Lawrence, KS; and Phillip Martin of San Antonio, TX; her brother Bill Boon of Ames, IA; 10 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 23 at First United Methodist Church. Private graveside services will take place at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Mrs. Martin will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel with visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Rescue Mission, 401 NW Norris St, Topeka, KS 66603.
