Carole W. Delp, 91, Topeka, passed away, Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at Topeka Presbyterian Manor.
She was born Carole Yvonne West on Feb. 16, 1916 in Meriden, KS, the daughter of Charles Lawrence and Ethel May Boydston West. She married Loren A. Delp on March 20, 1942 in Topeka. He preceded her in death in 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Phyrn West Redman (Mrs. Clyde Redman).
Mrs. Delp graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1933 and Washburn College in 1937 with majors in botany and microbiology. She worked as a laboratory technician at Christ's Hospital in Topeka; taught microbiology at Washburn University and did psychological testing at the Menninger Foundation.
Mrs. Delp lived in Topeka most of her life and contributed heavily to her community by volunteering as a docent at the Topeka Zoo and at the Helen Hocker Performing Arts Center. She was a Master Gardner and assisted at the ERC Designer Showhouse. She was known for entertaining both children and adults as "Clarabell the Clown" and "Butterscotch the Witch". She gave many "Last Supper" presentations at various civic events.
Mrs. Delp is survived by nieces, Charlene Redman Fitzhugh (Mike), Mrs. Arrilla B. Delp Fedde (Roger), Mrs. Virginia Delp Anderson (Donald) and Mrs. Kathy Delp Safley (Jon); a nephew, Mr. Dewain Delp, Jr.; a great-niece, Elizabeth Fitzhugh and a great-nephew, Jon Seal.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sat., March 1, 2008, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor, Jellison Chapel, 4712 SW 6th. Private inurnment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery & Mausoleum.
