Carol Sue Fairbanks, 66, Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Brewster Place.
Carol was born May 16, 1945 in Topeka, the daughter of Thomas and Gennevieve Fairbanks. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1963 and attended Stewart's Beauty Academy. She owned a beauty salon and later worked as an administrative assistant with the Shawnee Community Mental Health Center. She enjoyed volunteering as a troop leader for the Hoyt Girl Scouts and kept busy raising her children, sewing, and gardening.
Carol married Rene Poort on April 4th, 1965. They later divorced.
Survivors include sons, Matthew Poort, Belton, MO, Jarred Poort, Topeka; daughters, Heather Poort, Lawrence, Mariah Poort-Neeley, Topeka; grandchildren, Regan, Jarred, Jordan, Joshua, Madison, Ellarie; brother, Larry Reser, Brownsville, TX; sisters, Donna Jean Fairbanks, Oskaloosa, Karen Barney, Kansas City, MO; and step-father, Ray Oroke, Oskaloosa. She was preceded in death by her father and mother.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will follow at McLouth Cemetery. Carol will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
