Carl D. Metzler, 79, of Topeka, passed away, Monday March 22, 2010.
He was born September 24, 1930 in Topeka the son of Clarence and Mae (Rake) Metzler. Carl graduated from Highland Park High School in 1948 and received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Kansas in 1960.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army from 1948-1952. He was a 30 year member of Post #400 American Legion. Mr. Metzler worked as a pharmacist since 1960 and owned and operated Home Drug Pharmacy over 30 years.
He married Joyce McCarter June 12, 1949. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Brad (Mary) Metzler and Mark (Tari) Metzler all of Topeka, three grandchildren, Melanie (James) Butler, Megan Metzler and Mitch Metzler and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons Scott Metzler and two infant sons, one granddaughter, Suzanne Metzler, three brothers, Shorty, Melvin and Roy Metzler and two sisters, Doris Hilton and Lois Bouye.
Carl will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday March 26, 2010 at the funeral home followed by burial in the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
